Cameron Brink had 27 points and 16 rebounds to lead fourth-ranked Stanford to a 74-55 victory over Belmont University in the first round of the Ball Dawgs Classic on Wednesday.
The Bruins had been playing well until national powerhouse Stanford (5-0) got the win.
Trailing 33-32 early in the third quarter, a 3-pointer by Hannah Jump sparked a 9-0 run and Brinker added six points to give the Cardinal a 41-33 lead and control of the game.
The Bruins (2-for-3) closed the gap to six, 59-53, with 4:34 left in the game as the Cardinals closed the game on a 15-2 spurt.
Kiki Ilyafin had 14 points and nine rebounds for Stanford.
Florida State defeats Northwestern 90-52
Sara Bejedi scored 17 points and Florida State used a fast start to beat Northwestern 90-52 in the Ball Dawgs Classic.
Alexis Tucker contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Seminoles (5-0). O'Mariah Gordon hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, and Carla Viegas scored 11.
Haley Weaver had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Wildcats (3-2), who lost 110-52 to No. 17 Notre Dame in the other game.
On Friday, Florida State will play Stanford and Northwestern will play Belmont.
